Only 2 hours by Shinkansen from Tokyo station, Niigata is another must visit place in Japan.
Some people may associate “Niigata prefecture” with skiing or snowboarding, but walking and sightseeing is recommendable too.
Furumachi is a old town in Niigata city, 10 minutes by bus from Niigata station.
There are several halls and museums you can enjoy soaked yourself into Performing Arts or sports. Ryutopia ( http://www.ryutopia.or.jp ) is one of them.

There is a nice park to walk around Ryutopia hall. This picture was taken in the beginning of April, so SAKURA blossoms has not yet bloomed.
Hakusan park is a nice park, which has very traditional style of Japanese garden. Not like Tokyo or Osaka, there are not too many people, so this place may fits you if you prefer to have a long calm day.
Next to Hakusan park, there is Hakusan Shrine, one of the landmark of the Furumachi town. Just in front of the shrine, there is a long arcade street. You cannot expect bustling urdan atmosphere, but do not fail to find fabulous little stores that sell kimono or vintage items.
If you like walking in the town, let’s take some walk through the arcade to the end. There you can find Mitsukoshi Department store and La foret Harajuku shopping mall, suddenly gives you the sense of cosmo life.How to access

From Osaka … Flight from Osaka Air port to Niigata Airport. About 1 hour.
